The problem with keys

The problem with keys

Though locks and keys have been around for a very long time, they pose multiple problems when it comes to busy commercial and industrial premises. One of the most common issues is that keys are easily lost, which can slow down day-to-day operations. More importantly, keys can also be stolen or fall into the wrong hands, which brings with it serious security risks and expensive lock replacements. That’s why access control is a far more effective alternative and suitable for all kinds of work settings.

How does access control work?

How does access control work?

Access control involves some or all of your doors being controlled by a foolproof security system. Each door is opened using either a PIN that you enter on a nearby keypad or access tokens that you allocate to authorised members of staff. Once the door is closed, it automatically locks again, ensuring top levels of security throughout your premises.

Aside from being more convenient for your employees, an access control system allows you to provide different access rights according to each user’s role and level of authority. As soon as someone moves departments or receives a promotion, you can upgrade their access rights. Similarly, if someone leaves the company, you can disable their access token or easily change PINs without any costly replacements.

Read in / read out data

Access control is also an accurate way to monitor and log when individuals have entered and exited a building or specific work areas. This data can be used for timesheets, security reports, health and safety logs and any other documents that require the monitoring of human movement.

Access control can even be used for entrances that are used by the public, as certain doors can be set to unlock during a designated timeframe. For example, the main doors of your building could be set to remain unlocked from 9am until 5pm whilst other doors require a PIN or access token to gain entry.
